68 68 Issue7.2014 Specifications subject to change SafetyShockAbsorbersCB63 toCB160 For Crane Installations ACEsafetyshockabsorbers are self- contained andmaintenance-free. They are designed for emergency deceleration and are aneconomic alternative to industrial shock absorbers. Theprimary oil seals areprotected inside themainbody andonly awiper seal is necessary on thepiston rod. Dirt or contami nationon thepiston roddoes not causeoil leakageor failure as is often the casewith con- ventional buffers. The integratedgas accumu lator enables the CBSeries safety shock absorbers toprovide return forces of up to 15,869 lbs. This high return force is necessary formultiple-bridge craneswhere thebuffers must separate thebridges after anemergency collision. Normal bufferswould remain com- pressed after such a collision andwouldnot be capableof accepting further impacts. The robust, largedimensionedpiston rod bearing system, is designed for very heavy duty use and is equivalent to that used inother buffers80% larger in size. TheCB series units are customorificed to suit your specific appli- cation andprovide a smooth constant decelera- tion throughout their complete stroke length. Function: In thenormal “ready” condition thepiston rod is fully extended. When the impact load strikes the absorber thehydraulicoil behind thepiston is forced through a series ofmeteringorifices. The number ofmeteringorifices in action reduces proportionally through the stroke and the load velocity is thereby reduced to zero. The internal pressure and thus the reaction force (Q) remains constant throughout theentire stroke length. Thedisplacedoil is directed inside thepiston rodwhere a separator piston keeps theoil and thenitrogengas apart. The integratedgas accumulator, containing lowpressurenitrogen, provides thehigh return force to reset the rod to its extendedposition and generates thehigh return forces to complywith crane installations. Impact velocity range: 1.6 to15 ft/sec Material: Steel bodywithblack oxide finish. Piston rodhard chrome plated. Operating temperature range: 10 °F to150 °F Initial fill pressure: governs the rod return force. Increepspeed: The shock absorber canbepushed through its stroke.
